What is a zone file?
Basically its a set of directions that map your domain name (yourdomain.com) to your servers IP address.
How do I make changes to it?
If you have a Convert website, we manage your zone file so you don't have to. But you remain in complete control of your records. If you'd like any record changed, simply email firstname.lastname@example.org with your request and we'll take care of it for you!
Can I manage my own Zone file and still have a Convert website?
Yes, but we don't recommend it.
- If our hosting requires IP address changes in the future, now you'll be responsible for making those instead of us
- We manager Zone files through Cloud Flare, which speeds up your website
- Us managing your Zone file is easier for you
If you do decide to manager your own Zone file, please request an A name record from your Convert Strategist when it comes time to launch.
What is an NS record?
An NS record stands for Name Server record. It points from your domain name (ie. rubberducky.com) to your Zone File.
Typically your NS record is adjusted by the company you bought your domain from. For example, if you purchased your domain from GoDaddy, you contact them to adjust your NS record.
When you get a Convert website, one of the first things we'll request is for you to change your NS record to point to your new Zone File held by us on Cloud Flare.
